We’ve now heard from former Maryland Lieutenant Governor Michael Steele that someone on the Democratic side of the political fence has stolen Sarah Palin’s social security number.Identity theft as political tactic? I’d ask how much lower we could get in this country, but I don’t want to give the universe ideas.
That article was pretty weak on facts, and pretty heavy on a political slant. Is that what this blog has come to, no more thinking, just regurgitation of the Republican Line?
I’m sorry Rob, but I thought you were different. I thought there was some intelligence behind this blog, this post was just pathetic.
Well, in the first place, I shouldn’t have said “the Democratic Party”–that’s fixed. Obviously, if the story is in fact true, it’s not an official party tactic, but someone acting on their own. My mistake, I have no idea how I came to write that, but I did not mean to impugn the Democratic Party as sanctioning anything that awful.
In the second place, with that corrected, I hope you can see my concern here: that anyone (on either side, no question) would think of identity theft as a political tactic–and now that it’s out there, it’s been thought of–is alarming, to say the least. Neither party would officially do such a thing–no, that’s not strong enough, because I’m sure neither party would even unofficially hint at such a thing–but there are enough loonies on both sides . . . I don’t know what we might do to make sure that this kind of thing doesn’t become a real problem, but we have to do something.
Thank you for the change.
If that information was gleaned illegally then it is my hope that the perpetrator is hauled off to jail. Unfortunately, for less than fifty bucks you can usually get that information from an information broker online. So while my dander is up let me take a swipe at that obscene little fact.
You’re very welcome for the change, and again, I’m sorry for screwing that up in the first place.
And I agree, the ease with which the unscrupulous can get hold of that sort of information is a real problem.
