For all that sites like Daily Ko[ok]s have been crowing over the Walt Monegan brouhaha in Alaska and proclaiming it the death knell for Gov. Palin (and for Lt. Gov. Parnell in his run for the House), it appears the people of Alaska aren’t buying it: an independent poll has her favorable rating still at 80%.As regards Daily Kos’ premature dancing on Gov. Palin’s grave, I’m irresistibly reminded of C. S. Lewis’ dry comment in the preface to The Screwtape Letters that “there is wishful thinking in Hell as well as on Earth.” That will probably get me into trouble, and I don’t mean it seriously—people with their kind of attitude just annoy me, whether liberal or conservative, which is why I couldn’t help recalling it. 🙂
Do you think the latest Pawlenty rumors are true?
I still hope and pray it’s Palin, she really excites some many demographic groups…
Pawlenty is a boaring snoozer providing absolutely nothing to excite the voters towards the ticket. Nothing!!!
The moribund McCain campaign NEEDS THE PALIN ENERGY TO SURVIVE AND THRIVE!!!
So now take the following Quiz:
1. Which McCain Veep pick is SIMULTANEOUSLY the safest AND boldest?
ANSWER: Sarah Palin
2. How can McCain SIMULTANEOUSLY attract both Hillary AND Bob Barr voters?
ANSWER: Sarah Palin

And then there’s this from the Conservative Voice:

Americans need a little Palin Power
Sarah Palin the current Governor of Alaska is John McCain’s ultimate choice for VP. I do believe a woman is next in line for the presidency. All Conservatives like her. She is popular in Alaska. Hillary supporters would relish her. She would solidify a 12 or possibly 16 year Republican executive.
John McCain’s boring campaign is wearing thin. I need a little Palin Power to get me interested again. They would say ‘but she is only a half term Governor!’ And your point is?
That’s all I have to say about that!”
Yes, Ted, we’ve seen it.
As for the rumors, at this point I don’t think any rumors are true–I think McCain’s playing with people. The only person I’ve found whose prediction I find at all believable is James Carville, who knows McCain well; he said something to the effect that “Mac likes gambling, and he’s winding up for the craps throw of his life.” It could yet be Pawlenty in the end, but I doubt it; I would guess that if McCain’s that concerned with picking someone he knows well and is already comfortable with, it will be Carly Fiorina. For all the controversy that pick would cause, and all the downside of her lack of political experience, she still would do more for the ticket than Pawlenty (unless she imploded in the debates, anyway).
